Studying techniques I follow – My way of preparing for the exam

Ta-daa! My studying period has begun! 🙂 Everybody knows how difficult it is to convert the contents of a huge book into one small piece of paper and memorize them till the exam comes. Sometimes it’s all jammed up in head and we don’t know what relates with what subject!

I too find it difficult to study. However I would be able to get everything into my mind and feel relaxed before the exam. No exam-phobia for me!

So, here are my ways of getting ready to face exams. Hope posting this would help someone in their studies.

#1) Usually I get prepared for the exams two weeks before the exam date. It depends on the syllabus and confidence in me that I can finish studying within that period of time. So I don’t make timetables. I have a calendar right in front of my studying table. It is a type of a large number calender. So I randomly choose dates and write my subjects (or the units) on each date. Like, 15^th– Genetics, 16^th– Thermo dynamics, Anatomy…etc

That means I’m gonna finish the particular unit marked on a date before the end of that day.

(But…I keep some extra days free in case I missed something to study)

#2) I turn back my clock 5-10 minutes.

#3) I make flow charts. First I read and study the theories under one main topic. Afterwards I summarize them, dividing the main topic into sub topics.

#4) Diagrams

I draw diagrams that are large enough to see when they are pasted on ma wall next to my bed.

Don’t forget to use colours.

#5) Making stories and songs

This is so cool! (Especially useful to remember scientific terms) I used to make stories for anatomy and evolution and it worked out really well.

#6) Reading the short notes and flow charts again and again!

Even though I have finished the planned work for the particular day, I go through the previous days’ notes and flow charts I made. I revise them again and again when ever I get a time. This one really works so you better try this too.

#7) Day before the exam…

Many people say that we have to stay relaxed on the day before the exam. Hell not I’m gonna do that! That’s the most precious time for me to study! I go through my short notes again until I can picture it in my mind without looking at it. It automatically happens. I just turn pages memorizing what I have written there. That doesn’t mean I’m gonna study all night! I’ll get a good sleep before the exam. Actually I think having a good long sleep ace the exams! 🙂

Exams are announced…but I’m here to give you totally the opposite!

I don’t know whether this is a good habit or not. My exams were supposed to be started on 20^th June. However long before that we knew it’s going to be postponed. So I stopped studying and enjoyed my time happily 🙂 . I knew I have to face exams one day but I dint want to study. So when the July started I told my self ok this is it, I have no time to waste I must start study. At the same time I thought oh why bother, there’s heaps of time and I rescheduled studying to next day. So the next day also I thought the same thing. Likewise for last two three weeks I dint study any thing at all. Now the faculty informed us that the exams going to be starting on 30^th of August and provided the timetable. But again here I am doing nothing at all but blogging and surfing round the internet. I know this has happened before for the other exams too. But luckily I dint fail any of it. It’s just that I should get a very scared feeling like h my god exams are coming soon; I should get on with studying…etc to do my studies. Hmm maybe this is me, my way of studying. My style 😛 What creeps me out is when I see 24 hours studying people! Though I wanted to do like that I just can’t be like that! Maybe I’m not that much brainy and have no strength like that. But For now, I’m happy in the way I am. I just wish I can be like this for the rest of my life. At least for these few years in the university…

Interesting things about dreaming…

I remember I have posted couple of times about dreams. It’s not that I study about dreams or anything but this topic comes into me randomly. 🙂 There are so many amazing facts that we don’t know about dreams but yet we dream every night. You may say “nah, sometimes I don’t see dreams in my sleeps”, as the facts say, if you think you are not dreaming, it’s because you just completely forget your dreams. If you google then you can find so many stuff about dreams but I don’t think all of it are true. Here are some of the facts I found out recently.

•  Within 5 minutes of waking half of the dream is forgotten. Within 10, 90% is gone. (But I have few unforgettable dreams and I bet you also have 🙂 So I think we need a better explanation there.)

• People who became blind after birth can see images in their dreams. People who are born blind do not see any images, but have dreams equally vivid involving their other senses of sound, smell, touch and emotion.

• Every human being dreams (except in cases of extreme psychological disorder). Our mind is not inventing faces. In our dreams we see real faces of real people that we have seen during our life but may not know or remember. We have all seen hundreds of thousands of faces throughout our lives, so we have an endless supply of characters for our brain to utilize during our dreams.

• A full 12% of sighted people dream exclusively in black and white. The remaining number dream in full color. Studies from 1915 through to the 1950s maintained that the majority of dreams were in black and white, but these results began to change in the 1960s. Today only 4.4% of the dreams of under-25 year-olds are in black and white. Recent research has suggested that those changing results may be linked to the switch from black-and-white film and TV to color media. ( This one is bit funny and very hard to believe! )

• If you dream about some particular subject it is not often that the dream is about that. Dreams speak in a deeply symbolic language. Whatever symbol your dream picks on it is most unlikely to be a symbol for itself. The most common emotion experienced in dreams is anxiety. Negative emotions are more common than positive ones. Studies have been done on many different animals, and they all show the same brain waves during dreaming sleep as humans.

• Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep is a normal stage of sleep characterized by rapid movements of the eyes. During REM sleep the body is paralyzed by a mechanism in the brain in order to prevent the movements which occur in the dream from causing the physical body to move. However, it is possible for this mechanism to be triggered before, during, or after normal sleep while the brain awakens.

However why do we dream is still an unsolved question  🙂

KUNG FU PANDA 2 – “The Kaboom of Doom”

I can’t believe I forgot to mention you that I watched Kung Fu Panda 2! I must say that Kung Fu Panda 2 is one of the best animated movies I have ever seen. 🙂

Everything about the movie is just so perfect. I think it’s mainly because of the fine voice cast they have. Jack Black voice for Po the main character in the movie. (Ya ya I don’t have to say, Everybody knows that :/)

What I like most about the movie is when I expected some serious dialog or an incident, there comes the unexpected most hilarious parts! Actions continue from beginning to end without giving a chance to hesitate, like you know, very speedy moves. I felt like I was in the movie between those moves! I really loved the movie. But if you ask me which Kung Fu Panda movie I like most, well it’s the first one. That doesn’t mean Panda 2 is not that much great. I think the story line in the first movie is better than the second. The second movie is much like discovering and taking the revenge. However you just have to go and watch Kung Fu Panda 2 if you still haven’t watched it and yes, it shows the awesomeness!

Why wedding ring should be put on the fourth finger???

We all know that we put the wedding ring on the fourth finger. So it’s the ring finger. 😀 I’m sure you have read about many explanations for why it has to be the fourth finger always. Most people say it’s because there is a direct blood supply for that finger right from the heart. Anyways what I’m going to tell you is bit different from what you know. May be you know about this already. I also got to know about this long time ago. However, I think this should be the real explanation for the ring finger. So thought to share with you.

First of all you have to keep in mind that; Thumb represents parents
Second finger represents brothers & sisters
Center finger represents own self
Fourth finger represents your partner
Last finger represents your children

I’m back with something to think…

Ok I’m back! I was really busy as exams were coming close. Now the exams are postponed and yuppieeee I’m back here to my loving blog!

Well I want to let you think of something I read recently. It’s a small story with so much to think of. So this story begins with a soldier who was planning to go home after the war. So he called his parents;

“Mom, Dad I’m coming home next week but this time I’m coming with a friend”

“Oh that’s all right son, we are happy to meet your friend”

His parents answered like that.

“I must say that my friend lost his right hand and leg at war. Also he is severely damaged”

“That sounds terrible. We are truly sorry for him son. I’m sure we can find him a good place to stay”

“But mom, dad I want to let him stay with us. I want him to live with us”

At this moment Dad started to talk,

“Son, I know how you feel but you don’t know how badly this would impact your life. You are going to take a huge responsibility. We can’t take care of a person like that. We have our own lives to live. If he stays with us then we won’t be able to enjoy our lives as well”

“Your Dad is right son; you come alone here and forget about your friend. He can build up his own life alone”

Suddenly the line was disconnected. After couple of days the local police station telephoned, the massage was that the son has slipped out of a building and died. Police suspected that it was a suicide. His parents were shocked and went immediately to identify the corpse. They couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw that the son only had one leg and one arm…

So you see, sometimes we forget about the real pain of others until it happens to us or to the ones we love. We can say ‘oh that’s sad, I’m so sorry’ when we heard about someone’s unfortunate incident. Other than that most people forget about the whole thing within a minute. What we all have to realise is that all of us will face miserable conditions in life someday. So not by words but by actions we have to help others when they need help. You know we all are one big family after all…

Ooooh my tooth is aching! I’ll post others later…

My first tooth filling + X-ray

Today I had my very first tooth filling. Actually it’s a temporary filling. Doctor said my cavity is too deep I should have a X-ray. So I had my very first X-ray too. He told me to come back again if the pain continues for 2 weeks then he can go on with a nerve filling! Nerve filling??? Seriously??

I had this tooth cavity for almost 3 years. ( I didn’t tell him that! He was holding some kind of a tool and I just got scared that he would bang my head with that!) I always loved this cavity. I like the feeling of putting my tongue inside of it. But yesterday when I was eating, it suddenly gave me a pain that I almost slapped my self!

So today I went to the dentist. He’s an old  fine gentlemen. However at first I was bit nervous as he’s old ‘cos what if he makes a hole in my gum instead of cleaning my tooth! I thought he might not see things properly and he would probably make some mistakes!  My dad was with me so I couldn’t turn back and leave. His assistant put me in that weird chair they have and told me not to worry. huh worry?? I was freaking out! So doctor checked my tooth, cleaned the tooth area and finally filled it. I don’t want to give you all the details such as me making him stop for every 5 seconds and pleading him not to hurt me! Urhhhhh I don’t want to go through with all that again even by writing here. After that I went to take the X-ray copy. That was funny ‘cos I totally forgot that we can’t  see X-rays and for that very moment I imagined red color rays passing through my head. For that little time until I get my X-ray copy I imagined all the things that could go wrong with facing X-rays like giving me cancers, burning my face, damaging the skin…Yes I know I was stupid but you don’t know what you do when you are nervous!

So now I’m home. I miss the feeling of putting my tongue inside the cavity. My tongue secretly visits the tooth but the new guy off-white filling blocks and scares the tongue!  I think my tooth is really pissed right now. ‘cos it’s aching a lot! A lot means A LOT! Maybe the doctor has made a mistake! May be he hasn’t filled my cavity properly. May be I should get a nerve filling done.. BF, you won! Dentists are scary and now I know I’m scared of them too!
